A collective of Western Sydney's hottest musicians, a people's choice DJ battle competition and student academy showcase are set to take centre stage at Parramatta's Make Music Day celebrations this month.
On Saturday 21 June, the Western Sydney Music Academy will kick off celebrations with rock, folk and jazz performances at Parramatta Square from 1-3pm before Western Sydney's music collective, Full Circle take over the stage with an epic line-up of hip-hop, R&B and soul artists from 3-7pm.
Red Bull will then host the official Make Music Day after party at Crown Hotel with Red Bull Turn it Up with four crews bringing high energy and spinning the beats on the fly at Red Bull's crowd-judged DJ battle competition from 7-11pm.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said this global celebration of music encourages people of all ages and all music disciplines to share their passion with their communities.
"Parramatta is becoming an epicentre of arts and culture, from young stars developing their skills to emerging artists redefining the Australian music scene, there is no shortage of talent in Western Sydney," Cr Zaiter said.
"When you add the redevelopment of Riverside Theatres and soon to be opened Powerhouse Parramatta, the opportunities for arts and culture in Parramatta are endless.
"This Make Music Day is about giving Western Sydney talent a platform to show off their skills with the rest of Greater Sydney and the world here in our growing global City."
Launched in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now a worldwide festival of music where people from more than 750 cities and 120 countries around the world - young and old, amateur and profession and of every musical discipline - celebrate their talent and passion.
