Partial closure of War Street Moama

Murray River Council

Murray River Council has approved the partial closure of War Street Moama to support the expansion of the Moama Lions Community Village.

The section of roads runs from Council street to Warden Street and is located to the west of the expansion site.

The resolution follows ongoing discussions with local residents who objected to council's initial proposal to close the entire section of road.

Based on these discussions an amended partial road closure was proposed for the same section of war street, where council will retain a 9-metre wide road reserve to allow access for adjoining landholders and conveyance of services.

New lots would be created on the closed section of road reserve, with a 4-metre wide easement placed over the drainage and sewer services within these new lots.

Murray River Council mayor, Chris Bilkey said the discussion with local residents has delivered a great outcome for all.

"We rely on the feedback of local residents, and this is a great example of how discussions can help shift things in a direction that is beneficial for all."

"The partial road closure will allow for the construction of the additional proposed Lions units, protect Council's existing services and guarantee continued access for adjoining landholders," he said.

Finalisation of the Lions unit designs are currently underway.
