A passenger in a vehicle has been seriously injured after a crash in the Blue Mountains.
About 9pm yesterday (Sunday 11 May 2025), emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a blue Ford Fiesta and a silver Hyundai IX35 along Orient Street, Katoomba.
The Hyundai rolled onto its roof down an embankment filled with shallow water. A passenger was ejected and pinned beneath the vehicle in the water.
With the assistance of Police Rescue and Fire and Rescue NSW the 18-year-old man was released after about one hour. He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The driver of the Hyundai – a 22-year-old woman – was taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory testing. She and a 16-year-old male passenger were uninjured.
The 18-year-old male driver of the Ford and four occupants – three females aged 19, 18, 16 and a 16-year-old male – were also uninjured.
Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command established a crime scene that was examined by officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.
