The 100 day countdown is officially on for the PBR Australia Grand Finals, returning to Townsville October 31 – November 1, where the country's toughest bull riders will go head-to-head for Australia's most prestigious buckle and a $100,000 championship bonus.
The best of the best bull riders will be in Townsville for the most crucial 8 seconds of the season, and with the competition fierce, the stage is set for a showdown of grit, guts and glory.
"When we established this event back in 1999, the vision was always to grow it into one of the richest and most prestigious bull riding events in Australia," said PBR Australia General Manager Glen Young "Today, with over $150,000 in prize money and a $100,000 championship bonus on the line, it's incredibly rewarding to see that vision come to life. What makes it truly special is the way the community has embraced the event year after year—and the fire you see in the eyes of every cowboy who shows up determined to win it."
"Our world class Aussies continue to take the USA by storm in the PBR, the biggest and most competitive bull riding event across the globe, and our Australian competition is acclaimed as the source of some of the best in the world. Come the end of October, the global bull riding eyes will all be fixed on Townsville to witness Australia's best," said Glen.
Mareeba's Kurt Shephard remains on top of the leaderboard with 1,589.33 points, riding at a solid 56 % qualification rate. The two Brazilian riders in Luan Crystian Camara and Matheus Lima Rodrigues are in piping hot form just behind him. Rounding out the top five currently are Queensland riders Zane Hall from Athol and Ben Bode from Calliope.
Last year's PBR Australia Grand Finals didn't just deliver edge-of-your-seat action, it generated a serious boost to the Townsville economy. More than 10,000 spectators filled the stands, generating 11,352 visitor nights and over $3.98 million in overnight visitor spend. The total economic impact? A whopping $4.23 million.
