Pedestrian critical after hit by car in Cardiff

A woman is in a critical condition after she was hit by a car in South Cardiff this morning, NSW Police say.

About 12.40am tomorrow, a 39-year-old man was driving a Mazda 3 sedan south along First Avenue.

At the same time, a 44-year-old woman was crossing the same road when she was hit by the Mazda.

The man stopped and attempted to assist the woman, before emergency services arrived.

The woman was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The man was taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
