Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Brunswick East

An 82-year-old man has died after being struck by a car in Brunswick East yesterday.

A Ford Ranger allegedly hit the Brunswick West man while he was crossing the road at the intersection of Hope Street and Melville Road about 9.45am.

He was taken to hospital however died this morning.

The Ranger driver, a 27-year-old man, stopped at the scene to assist.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged the Brunswick man with dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
