Pedestrian Dies After Crash At Newcastle

A pedestrian has died following a crash near Newcastle this morning.

About 9.10am (Monday 25 May 2026), emergency services were called to Maitland Road, Sandgate, following reports of a crash.

At the scene, police attached to Newcastle City Police District were told that a pedestrian had been hit by a truck.

The pedestrian was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

Police have since been notified that the man died in hospital. He is yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the truck, a 42-year-old man, was not injured; however, was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are underway.
