Pedestrian Dies After Crash At Wollongong 24 April

A man has died following a crash in the State's south today.

About 12.05pm today (Friday 24 April 2026), emergency services were called to Staff Street, Wollongong, near Crown Street, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a car.

NSW Ambulance treated the pedestrian – a man believed to be in his 80s – for head injuries before he was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the car – a 62-year-old man – was taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Police have been informed the man has since died.

At this stage, police have been unable to formally identify the man and asking for anyone with information about his identity to contact police.

He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, and was wearing a red and black flannelette shirt, and black shoes.
