Pedestrian dies after crash in Clifton Hill

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in Clifton Hill overnight.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the Eastern Freeway, near Hoddle Street, on Wednesday 30 August about 12.15am.

It's understood a man was working on the freeway road works when he was struck by a Toyota sedan.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital where he later died.

The 27-year-old driver has been arrested and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The Eastern Freeway is expected to be closed for some time while investigators process the scene.
