A woman has died in hospital after she was hit by a car in South Cardiff this morning, NSW Police say.
About 12.40am tomorrow, a 39-year-old man was driving a Mazda 3 sedan south along First Avenue.
At the same time, a 44-year-old woman was crossing the same road when she was hit by the Mazda.
The man stopped and attempted to assist the woman, before emergency services arrived.
The woman was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where she has since died.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Witnesses are urged to come forward and contact Crime Stopers.
