Penguin District School Gets Modern Facilities Upgrade

Members,

A $20 million redevelopment of the Penguin District School has been completed in time for the first day of the 2023 school year.

Education, Children and Youth Minister Roger Jaensch said the Rockliff Liberal Government had delivered on its 2018 election commitment to redevelop the Penguin District School.

"The redevelopment has delivered a range of modern and state-of-the-art learning facilities for students and staff, as well as consolidating the primary and secondary campuses onto the existing secondary campus site," Minister Jaensch said.

"Extensive community and stakeholder consultation in 2018 and 2019 helped shape the redevelopment and I would like to thank students, staff and the wider school community for their involvement in the project.

"In response to that feedback, the school's facilities have been designed to accommodate community use, including the development of a new carpark, through a partnership with the Central Coast Council."

The works also featured a new performing arts space, student cafeteria and new gym.

Penguin District School Principal Angela McAuliffe said the completion of the works allowed all students to be learning on the same site which was very exciting.

"All our students and staff will be using the new facilities from the start of Term 1, which is a wonderful way to start the school year as a K–12 school community on the one campus and is the culmination of a journey that began back in 2018," Ms McAuliffe.

Local contractor Vos Construction and Joinery has worked tirelessly since 2020 to ensure the project was completed ahead of the 2023 school year, with the build supporting 150 full-time equivalent jobs.

"The Rockliff Liberal Government is investing in our learners, creating jobs and growing our economy," Minister Jaensch said.

"We continue to invest in contemporary facilities for our learners in the North-West, including the recently completed $10.5 million redevelopment of Devonport High School, the $7.1 million redevelopment of Montello Primary School, new Child and Family Learning Centres currently under construction at West Ulverstone and Wynyard, and the future redevelopment of the North West Support School."
