Peninsula Locals Find Fitness and Friendship

What so many locals have discovered is that getting active isn't just about fitness – it's about connection.
Across the Mornington Peninsula, people are finding new ways to move and, in doing so, finding each other.
From pickleball at Somerville Recreation Centre to sea swimmers braving the cold together to aqua aerobics at YAWA – it's the friendships formed along the way that keep people coming back.
"I've met a whole lot of new friends," says one local about playing pickleball. "I sleep better at night, I'm eating better and I just love it."
Others spoke about the joy of seeing familiar faces each week, the way someone takes you under their wing when you're trying something new, and having that post-class coffee catch-up that's now part of their routine.
So whether you're joining a group, taking that first swim, or simply heading out for a walk, there's never been a better time to move your body, meet new people, and enjoy everything our Peninsula has to offer.
This November, we're celebrating all the different ways locals choose to be active through the Make A Move, Your Way campaign – with free Come & Try events and accessible options across the Peninsula for everyone.
Watch the video below to meet the locals who've found connection through movement as part of the campaign.
