In celebration of Library and Information Week, which runs from Monday 28 July to Sunday 3 August 2025, Penrith City Libraries is spotlighting its extensive programs for all age groups and their various technology offerings.
The Library offers inclusive and engaging programs for all age groups and has upgraded its technology to better serve the community. These programs range from Little Learners sessions for children, HSC lectures and creative workshops for teenagers and author talks and skill development workshops for adults.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the Library is continuously reviewing its programs and offerings for opportunities to meet the needs of the community and decrease the obstacles Library members might face when trying to access information and technology.
"Our Library plays a key role in connecting people and communities with the services, resources and information they need, and by reducing costs and improving access we can ensure everyone benefits from this fantastic resource," Cr Carney said.
"The Library prides itself on providing a diverse and inclusive program for our community - which has been well-received and well-attended. The staff are always adding to their program based on member feedback and requests."
Recently, the Library has upgraded its technology offerings with the installation of laptop lockers at Penrith and St Marys libraries. Library members can borrow a laptop for use in the library for up to two hours per day or charge their own laptop in the lockers.
Hublets were installed at all library branches, containing smart device tablets with various apps for children and adults to use within the Library.
As of last year, the library offers 3D printing services and 'come and try' 3D modelling classes.
In December 2024, Penrith City Libraries launched its first Anytime Library at Glenmore Park - a book vending machine that allows members to borrow items from HomeCo. Glenmore Park Town Centre.
Library membership is free for all NSW residents. Sign up at St Clair, St Marys or Penrith City Library branches.
This year's Library and Information Week's theme is "To Read or Not to Read: Literacy Matters", which celebrates how libraries actively work to dismantle various barriers community members may face when trying to access information, learning opportunities and technology.
