Pentagon Press Secretary Provides Red Hill Defueling Update

U.S. Department of Defense

The following statement is attributed to Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder:

The Department continues its efforts to cooperate closely with the Hawaii Department of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Hawaii state officials to ensure the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility is defueled and closed safely.

In support of that goal, the Department of Defense published a new supplement to the DoD Red Hill Defueling Plan today. This supplement demonstrates our intent to begin defueling the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility on an accelerated timeline. The prospect of defueling early is a testament to the commitment of the Department to safeguarding the environment and protecting the health of people in Hawaii.
