People in Banks hitting the street for public schools

Public school supporters will be hitting the streets of Banks electorate this weekend to call for the fair funding of public schools.

These people will be delivering "Fair Funding Now" flyers to neighbours and homes in nearby streets. The flyers list the funding increase promised to each public school in the Banks area to be provided by a Shorten Labor government if Labor wins the next federal election.

Labor has already committed to $17,890,000 in extra funding for public schools in the Banks electorate, as part of its $3.3 billion additional investment in public school across Australia between 2020-2022.

"Public schools in Banks will see an additional $17,890,000 in funding under a Shorten Labor government," NSW Teachers Federation President, Maurie Mulheron said.

"This school-by-school information is vital for parents, teachers and voters so they can make an informed choice about who will properly fund our public schools."

"We know that extra funding for public schools makes a real difference in terms of providing smaller classes, more teachers and more individual one-on-one support for students. That extra support will give public school students a bigger chance to reach their potential," Mr Mulheron said.

"We have great schools in the Banks electorate, but fair funding will help to transform them and provide our students with the opportunities they deserve."

"Labor's additional investment of $3.3 billion over three years into public schools will ensure that public education is the key priority of a future federal government. It recognises the importance of properly funding the system responsible for educating Australia's 2.5 million public school students," Mr Mulheron said.

"It means every public school will have the extra funds it needs to invest in more teachers and more classroom support for those children who need it."

"Labor's promise of an extra $3.3 billion in its first three years of government stands in stark contrast to the Morrison government's record of $1.9 billion cuts from public school budgets in 2018 and 2019," Mr Mulheron said.

"The strength of the Fair Funding Now! campaign is a clear indication that cutting funding for public schools is a major issue of national concern, and a major misstep by the Morrison government. We will continue to take our message to the people and ensure that they hear our message."

"In the lead up to the next federal election, our Fair Funding Now! tour will send a strong message to politicians in Canberra about the importance of fair funding for our public schools," Mr Mulheron said.
