Perc Tucker Regional Gallery welcomes accomplished Australian artist

Council’s Perc Tucker Regional Gallery is thrilled to be displaying the work of famed Australian artist Julie Fragar, starting Friday 2 December 2022.

Julie Fragar: Biograph is the first career survey of her work and assembles her key works made between 1998 and 2021, including some previously unexhibited pieces.

The survey is arranged according to key ongoing themes for the artist, including biography, memory, identity, and narrative and will be at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery until 12 February 2023.

Mayor Jenny Hill will officially launch the exhibit this Friday night and said she was delighted to see Julie Fragar’s famed work make its way to Townsville.

“Julie has had a stellar career and her exhibit will be a must-see for our local arts community,” Cr Hill said.

The exhibition launches at 6pm and there will be an artist and curator talk on Saturday 3 December from 10:30-11:30am.

Fragar will also hold a masterclass in composition this Saturday 3 December from 1-4pm.

The Mayor is also launching the City of Townsville Art Collection: Recent Acquisitions exhibition tonight, which features the works of 60 artists across 92 artworks on display.

It features a selection of artworks recently acquired for inclusion in the City of Townsville Art Collection, including purchases, gifts, and Cultural Gift Donations of significance in line with the collection priority areas of the City of Townsville Art Collection Policy, including Australian Art/Art of North Queensland, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art, Modern and Contemporary Art, and Australian Colonial and Historical Art.
