Perth Mayor Speaks Out on Forrest Place Terror Act

The City of Perth condemns in the strongest possible terms the alleged attempted bombing at Forrest Place.

This was an unacceptable act intended to incite fear and cause harm.

While it is incredibly fortunate that no one was physically injured, that does not mean no one was harmed. Acts like this have a profound impact on people's sense of safety and wellbeing.

The safety of our community is the City's highest priority.

The planning and coordination between the City of Perth and WA Police for Australia Day enabled a swift response by police and City staff, helping to move people to safety.

The City is a diverse community. We support the right of all people to protest peacefully and safely in our City, and we remain committed to facilitating lawful gatherings while prioritising public safety.

As always, the City will continue to work closely with WA Police and other relevant agencies to monitor risks, strengthen security measures and ensure the safety of everyone who lives in, works in or visits our City.

We want our community to feel safe, supported and confident that we are vigilant in protecting and preserving the safety and security of our City.
