PFAS Preliminary Site Investigation Report and community sessions

Senversa and the expert team are returning to Norfolk Island on 8 March 2021 to update the community on the results of the first step of the detailed environmental investigation into per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) levels related to the historical use of firefighting foam at the Norfolk Island International Airport.

After delays due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Senversa and the expert PFAS team will brief a range of stakeholders and host community walk-in sessions on the Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI) report.

The community walk-in sessions will take place at No. 11 Quality Row on:

  • Wednesday, 10 March 2021, 12PM–5PM
  • Thursday 11 March 2021, 9AM–12PM

The PSI report and fact sheets will be available on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications website at www.regional.gov.au/territories/norfolk_island/pfas/ on 10 March 2021.

Senversa have recommended a further Detailed Site Investigation to close a number of data gaps relating to the nature and extent of PFAS in groundwater, surface water, soil and sediment and biota on Norfolk Island. A Senversa field team will be on Island over the period 8-16 March 2021 collecting additional samples.
