Picton East fatal crash

Major Crash Officers are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Picton East yesterday, Thursday 20 August 2020.

Just after 3.35pm, a Hino flatbed truck travelling on Martin-Pelusey Road and a Kenworth Prime Mover towing three stock trailers carrying 90 head of cattle, collided at the intersection of South Western Highway (North) and Martin-Pelusey Road.

The Kenworth came to rest on the hard shoulder of the eastbound lane, with the trailers tipping over onto their sides. Six cattle had to be destroyed as a result and the remaining cattle are yet to be collected.

A Hyundai sedan ran off the road so as not to collide with the vehicles.

The driver of the Hino, a 75-year-old man received critical injuries in the crash and died at the scene.

The driver of the Kenworth a man in his 40s received non-life threatening injuries and the 17-year-old driver of the Hyundai was not injured.
