Everyone can find a treasure among the trash at the Logan Recycling Market but please be patient when it re-opens on Friday, June 12 with strict new social distancing measures in place.

The Logan Recycling Market will re-open this Friday, June 12, under strict new control measures to comply with the State Government's Stage Two easing of pandemic restrictions.

Social distancing will be strictly enforced and the number of people permitted to enter some enclosed sections of the market will be limited.

The market has been closed since March 20 to comply with COVID-19 rules and its re-opening is expected to create considerable interest in the community.

But Logan City Council strongly advises people to consider delaying their visit to the Logan Recycling Market to ensure the re-opening runs smoothly under the new rules.

City Planning, Economic Development and Environment Committee Chairperson, Councillor Jon Raven urged the recycling community to take a responsible approach to the re-opening.

"We know how popular the Recycling Market is and that everyone is itching to get in there and find a bargain but in the interests of public safety we can't have big crowds gather there just yet," Cr Raven said.

"Please think about putting off your first visit beyond opening day to avoid the crowds.

"If you find there are delays please be patient or consider coming back at another time to see if the line has calmed down. Council staff are working to keep you safe so please be kind and respect any directions they may issue."

Changes at the market will include:

  • Three entry points will be used with crowd control aisles in operation
  • Social distancing protocols will be implemented and strictly enforced
  • Restrictions on customer entry numbers will apply to certain enclosed sections of the market
  • Cash will be accepted but eftpos is preferred

Recyclable and reusable items and donations for the markets are now being accepted.

They can be dropped off at any of Council's five waste and recycling facilities (Browns Plains, Logan Village, Carbrook, Greenbank and Beenleigh).
