The NSW Department of Planning and Environment will be at Macarthur Square in Campbelltown from Thursday this week to meet and talk with residents.
The Department's Acting Deputy Secretary, Planning and Design, Brett Whitworth, said the Department was keen to hear from locals about, among other things, the new Greater Macarthur 2040 Interim Plan released earlier this week.
"Campbelltown is a fantastic part of the Greater Macarthur Growth Area and when we were last in town for the Festival of Fisher's Ghost residents said they valued the opportunity to have their say on planning issues," Mr Whitworth said.
"We want to keep those conversations going and, in particular, we want to hear your views on the new Greater Macarthur 2040 Interim Plan.
"Under the plan, future residents will be better connected with easy access to public transport, new parks, and recreation space. A koala sanctuary east of Appin Road is also proposed, along with a major upgrade to Appin Road.
"We're working with Campbelltown City Council on new urban design and local character plans around seven train station precincts from Glenfield to Macarthur to provide new homes and apartments and 21,000 jobs over the next 20 to 30 years.
"But that's just the beginning. We need to hear from the community, so we can capture their views in the planning process and ensure we are working together to plan for the extra 19,050 people expected to call Campbelltown local government area home by 2036."
Department staff will be on hand to explain what the Department does and to talk through local planning issues and recent changes that may be important to locals, including the introduction of Special Infrastructure Contribution schemes (SIC) for Greater Macarthur. The SICs will ensure the necessary infrastructure is in place and paid for by developers as Campbelltown LGA grows in the next 20 years.
The Department's team will be at the Macarthur Square shopping centre in Kellicar Lane, Campbelltown, on Thursday, November 22, from noon to 7pm, and on Saturday, November 24, and Sunday, November 25, from 10am to 4pm.
