Are you looking at submitting a Development Application (DA) in the coming year? If so, you can expect a more streamlined experience. A review of the DA assessment timeframes and continued roll-out of changes to the DA process have been highlighted as key initiatives proposed by Wingecarribee Shire Council in our 2023/24 draft Operational Plan.
With a focus on utilising technology to improve the processing time of enquiries, WSC has set new guidelines for DA assessment time frames which will be monitored and reviewed for improvement throughout the year.
WSC's Acting Manager Development Assessment and Regulation John McFadden says community members can anticipate smoother and timelier processing of DAs as the centred efforts on reducing DA timeframes take shape.
"We have focused our attention on enhancing the development assessment and application processes to ensure our community members receive the prompt and efficient services they expect. Our aim is to achieve a more citizen-centric experience and streamlined system."
"As an example of the changes that are happening, Council is now sending all correspondence on DAs to owners, at the same time as we send it to the builder, architect or planning consultant acting as an applicant on their behalf, to ensure that they are fully aware of any issues that need to be addressed."
Along with the DA focus, Council's draft 2023/24 Operational Plan outlines other key initiatives that will safeguard the environment and align infrastructure to maintain the charm and heritage of the Shire, including a review of stormwater assessment and Section 68 approval processes.
Further to these initiatives, WSC aims to further ensure compliance with development regulations and effectively address any potential violations. To do this, WSC will establish an investigation prioritisation procedure for development compliance investigations.
WSC is embracing technological advancements by implementing electronic tools and systems to assist with investigations for improved processing enquiries. This initiative aims to provide swift responses and real-time solutions to community concerns.
Community well-being remains a top priority with a review of ranger responses to public places and animal complaints. WSC takes community reports of this nature seriously and is ensuring that staff have updated protocols in order to support them to respond promptly to residents' concerns.
In addition to WSC's ongoing effort to streamline processes and enhance services, a comprehensive review of the current fee structure has resulted in several changes in development and impounding fees.
