You may have noticed an increase in moth activity across the region recently. Many of these are believed to be Bogong moths, an endangered native species undertaking one of Australia's most remarkable migrations.
Each spring, Bogong moths travel hundreds of kilometres to the Australian Alps and Snowy Mountains, where they provide an important food source for the critically endangered mountain pygmy-possum and other alpine wildlife.
If you see these moths around your home, please avoid spraying or harming them. They are harmless to people and are an important part of Australia's natural environment.
Where possible, reducing unnecessary outdoor lighting can also help migrating moths stay on course.
