Point Stuart Access Road upgrades complete

NT Government

Territory fishos now have improved access to some of the best barramundi fishing waters in the Top End, following the completion of the Point Stuart Access Road upgrades.

The $6 million project has upgraded approximately 12.4km of the track to a graded road with culverts in low lying areas to improve access.

The work includes raising and widening the Swim Creek crossing and addresses matters raised regarding safety and accessibility, including clearing of vegetation for improved line of sight and increased signage.

The upgrades will improve access to some of the Territory's best runoff fishing locations for barramundi, including Love Creek, Carmor Creek and reefs in the area, which in turn alleviates demand on the boat ramp at Shady Camp.

Fishos will now have better access for towing boats to access fishing in creeks and reefs in the Chambers and Finke Bay region.

The project is part of the Territory Government's $50 million RecFishing Futures Program to improve fishing infrastructure.

The road is now open however road conditions across the Territory can change rapidly depending on the time of year. Stay up to date by following Road Report NT on Facebook or visiting roadreport.nt.gov.au

The Territory Government recently relaunched the NT Fishing and Boating Mate app which gives fishos instant access to tides, fishing and boating rules and safe boating information.
