Polair assists in high speed motorcyclist arrest in Wallsend

A man will appear in court today after allegedly travelling at high speeds in Wallsend and surrounding areas overnight, NSW Police say.

About 10.45pm (Friday 7 September 2018) officers were patrolling Minmi Road, Wallsend, when they saw a motorcycle travelling in excess of the posted 60km/h speed limit.

Police attempted to stop the rider, however, it failed to stop and has overtaken a number of vehicles on Minmi Road.

Due to safety reasons, a police pursuit was not initiated.

The motorcyclist continued to travel through Minmi, West Wallsend, Homesville, Barnsley, Teralba and Speers Point.

The rider was observed by Polair to stop outside a home on Quarry Street, Speers Point.

Officers from Newcastle City and Lake Macquarie Police Districts with assistance from Polair, arrested the 23-year-old rider outside the home.

He was taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive furiously/recklessly in a manner dangerous, use unregistered motor vehicle, use class A vehicle displaying misleading number plates, not stop vehicle when directed to do so, and use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Saturday 8 September 2018).
