For the first time in 20 years, the Police Academy will open its doors to the public, offering prospective recruits a unique opportunity to explore what a career with NSW Police can offer them.
On Saturday 27 September 2025, those interested in life as a student officer at the Police Academy in Goulburn will gain a rare behind-the-scenes look at the first stage of becoming a police officer.
The theme of the event, which is being held from 10am to 2pm, is: "Do you have what it takes to be a cop?"
Visitors can participate in interactive displays and scenarios from specialist units, tour the Academy grounds and speak with staff about joining the police.
There will be demonstrations from the Dog and Mounted Unit, Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, the Forensic Evidence & Technical Services Command – including crime scene and ballistics experts – as well as Crash Investigators and the weapons training area will be open.
Additional displays will feature police vehicles, the Public Order & Riot Squad, Missing Persons Unit, Cybercrime Squad, Youth Command, and Aviation Command.
Academy facilities will also be open to the public, including the new gym, scenario village, museum, classrooms, accommodation, and dining area.
The Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, Yasmin Catley said the Academy Open Day was a fantastic opportunity for people to get a real look inside the NSW Police Force.
"There are so many avenues to explore within the NSW Police Force, many of which the public rarely see and the Open Day is a great opportunity for people to discover the range of options available," Minister Catley said.
"The NSW Government is making it more attractive than ever to join the force, offering paid study, a once-in-a-generation pay rise for officers and new, regional recruitment pathways to support recruits.
"There's never been a better time to join the NSW Police Force and the message is getting through because we've seen a 70% increase in applications since announcing paid study," Minister Catley added.
"Whether you're about to finish school, considering a career change, expecting a child or are even an elite athlete looking to work while you train - the opportunities are endless."
Superintendent John Klepczarek encouraged people to visit the Academy to find out how to become part of the next generation of NSW Police.
"Thinking about a career in law enforcement? This is where it begins," Superintendent Klepczarek said.
"Visitors can explore the facilities, meet our instructors, and learn about the journey from recruit to officer.
"They can learn about the training, fitness, studies and commitment required from student officers.
"The displays will also provide a unique opportunity for people to learn about the many and varied career paths with the NSW Police Force."
