Police appeal after man assaulted in Darlinghurst

Police are appealing for information after a man was found injured at Darlinghurst this morning, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to Barcom Avenue about 4.30am tomorrow, after residents reported hearing what they believed were gunshots.

A 76-year-old man was located with a non-life threatening head injury outside a unit block and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established which is being forensically examined.

Inquiries are continuing into how the man became injured and whether any shots were fired.
