Police appeal after man dies following domestic assault in Waterloo

Police are appealing for public assistance following the death of a man after a domestic incident at Waterloo last month, NSW Police say.

Just before 3am on Saturday 19 August 2017, police and emergency services were called to a unit on John Street in relation to an alleged domestic incident.

One of the parties involved, a 53-year-old man, was later taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he died last weekend.

Detectives from Redfern Local Area Command have established Strike Force Hardware to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the man.

Inquiries have revealed that the man was earlier assaulted with a hammer around 1am on Friday 2 June 2017, where he sustained serious injuries at the time.

The incident is believed to have occurred in the vicinity of a unit block on McEvoy Street, Waterloo.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information that could assist investigators.
