Police appeal following robberies in Alexandria

Police are appealing for public assistance as they investigate the robbery of a man, and attempted robbery of another, at Alexandria on the weekend.

About 11pm on Saturday (16 February 2019), a 21-year-old man was with friends at Sydney Park, when the group was approached by two men asking for cigarettes and beer.

The man was then punched from behind, causing his teeth to break.

He and his friends ran away, but were chased by the men, who caught up with the 21-year-old and continued to assault him before taking his phone and fleeing.

The man's friends returned and assisted him, taking him to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

About 11.30pm (Saturday 16 February 2019), a 28-year-old man was walking through the same park, when a man demanded money from him.

Police have been told when he declined, the man punched him in the face.

He ran away, before they were involved in another brief altercation.

The 28-year-old then saw another four men running towards him. He ran towards the Princes Highway and the men stopped chasing him.

Both matters were later reported to police.

As investigations continue, officers would like to speak with a man described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 170cm tall, with a thin build and short black hair. At the time he was wearing a black t-shirt and white joggers.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
