Police appeal for information after double fatal near NSW-Victorian border

Police are appealing for public assistance as investigation continue into a double fatal crash involving a stolen vehicle near the NSW-Victorian border in the state's Far West earlier this month.

Emergency services were called to Silver City Highway, 13km south east of Dareton, about 3.15am on Thursday 14 April 2022, after a passing motorist located a Holden that had crashed off the roadway.

Victoria Police were first on the scene and advised NSW Police that the bodies of two people had been located near the vehicle, which had rolled multiple times.

The occupants – two boys aged 15 from Victoria – died at the scene and have since been formally identified.

Officers attached to Barrier Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Holden - reportedly stolen from Victoria on the evening of Wednesday 13 April 2022 - was seized and has since been forensically examined. Investigations into the crash are ongoing and a report has been prepared for the Coroner.

As inquiries continue, police urge any witnesses – including motorists with dashcam vision – to come forward, particularly any motorist who may have seen or picked up a pedestrian in the area between 3am and 7am.
