Police appeal for information and witnesses to serious assault at Yatala, QLD

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to an incident at Yatala last night where a man was allegedly threatened and assaulted by a group on the M1, Queensland Police say.

Around 9:45pm police were called to the M1 after the driver of a Subaru Forester station wagon was involved in a road rage incident with the occupants of a white van or mini bus.

Initial investigations indicate the two vehicles stopped on the side of the M1 between Pimpama and Yatala where a physical altercation has occurred.

As a result, the driver of station wagon sustained serious head injuries from being assaulted with an unknown weapon by occupants of the van.

Investigations suggest the van may have had up to 13 occupants and left the scene before police and emergency services arrived.

A 29-year-old man remains in a critical condition at the Gold Coast University Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or dash cam footage taken in the vicinity of the M1 between Pimpama and Yatala from around 9:30pm to the time of the incident to contact them.

Investigations are continuing.
