Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an assault in Strathfieldsaye this morning, Victoria Police say.
It is believed a man was seriously assaulted by an unknown male at the intersection of Guys Hill Road and Ryalls Lane shortly before 3.40am.
The 36-year-old man received significant injuries to his hand and leg, believed to be sustained from an edged weapon.
Police are hoping to speak to a number of people in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident.
It’s understood a ride-share driver may have been in the area at the time, along with two vehicles which were seen travelling up Guys Hill Road, from Tannery lane.
Police also urge anyone else who witnessed the event or who has information to contact Crime Stoppers.
