Police Are Responding To Fatal Crash - Helensburgh

A man has died after a fatal crash south of Sydney.

Shortly after 6pm yesterday (Monday 20 July 2026), emergency services responded to reports that a motorist had been struck by a car after a crash in the southbound lanes of the M1 Motorway, Helensburgh.

Officers from Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Police have been informed that a white Isuzu tabletop truck driven by a 40-year-old man and a red tipper truck driven by a 25-year-old man were involved in a minor collision.

As both men were exchanging particulars the older man was hit by a passing white Toyota Hiace van driven by a 28-year-old woman.

Following the impact between the Hiace van and the 40-year-old man, a grey Chery station wagon driven by a 30-year-old man and a blue Volkswagen sedan driven by a 43-year-old woman were involved in a secondary crash with the Hiace van.

The 40-year-old man died at the scene.

There were no reports of any other person being injured.

All drivers were taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
