Upfront Fees Now Apply to Most Protection Decision Reviews

Administrative Review Tribunal

If you apply for a review of a decision to refuse or cancel a protection visa, you now need to pay an upfront fee.

You do not have to pay this fee if:

  • you are a non-citizen in immigration detention, or
  • you can combine your application with another application where a fee has already been paid.

The new fee requirements follow changes to the Migration Regulations 1994.

If you started an online application for a review of a protection decision, but did not submit it before 12:00 am (AEDT) Sunday 1 November 2026, you will need to start a new application and pay the upfront fee of $1,863.50 before you can submit it.
