Police are responding to serious crash at Windsor Gardens, South Australia

Police are at the scene of a serious crash at Windsor Gardens. North East Road remains closed.

Just after 2.30am on Monday 23 September, two cars collided at the intersection of North East Road and Pitman Road at Windsor Gardens.

A BMW sedan and a Commodore station wagon collided, practically ripping the Commodore in half and showering a third car with debris.

Miraculously, the female driver of the Commodore was able to step out of her car and does not appear to have sustained serious injuries. She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and is in a stable condition.

The male driver of the BMW sustained major head and internal injuries and has been taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.

North East Road is currently closed between Sudholz Road and Fleet Avenue in both directions while Major Crash investigators examine and mark the scene. Pitman Road is also closed at North East Road. Diversions are in place.

Motorists are asked to find an alternate route this morning while emergency services clear the scene.
