Police are responding to serious crash in North Adelaide, South Australia

A woman has been seriously injured and police are looking for a driver following a crash overnight in North Adelaide.

Just after 3.30am, Sunday 7 August, patrols and paramedics were called to Sir Edwin Smith Avenue, after a woman had been run over.

It's believed the woman was in the rear passenger seat of a Mercedes utility when she opened the door and fell onto the roadway as the ute turned right from King William Road onto Sir Edwin Smith Avenue. A Toyota sedan driving behind at the time slowed down having seen the woman lying on the road. At this time, a taxi driving behind the Toyota, changed into the second turn lane and ran over the woman.

Police were able to confirm the circumstances following a review of CCTV. The driver of the Mercedes left the scene prior to police arriving.

The 21-year-old from Greenwith was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Investigations are continuing and police are appealing for the driver of the utility to come forward. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
