Police have caught 24 people during a shoplifting operation at Fairfield today, NSW Police say.
On Wednesday (24 January 2018), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command conducted a retail theft operation within the Fairfield City Police Area Command.
The operation saw 24 people arrested, allegedly committing shoplifting offences.
Court attendance notices were issued to seven people.
Criminal infringement notices were issued to 11 people and six people were issued a warning.
In addition to this, police arrested two persons with outstanding warrants, two persons wanted in relation to a $13,000 shoplifting offence, one person in relation to driving a stolen motor vehicle and domestic related offences, and two persons in relation to goods in custody suspected of being stolen,
"I can assure the community that we are committed to continuing our operations that target shoplifting and this sort of criminal behaviour will not be tolerated, "Fairfield City Commander, Superintendent Peter Lennon said.
Police are also reminding shoppers to take simple precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft:
* Be mindful of your handbags, wallets and purses
* Always keep your bag zipped up
* Keep cash and valuables in your bag to a minimum
* Do not leave prams and trolleys unattended
* Be alert – especially at ATMs
* Avoid carrying large sums of cash
* Don’t put your bag on top of your car while unloading shopping.
