Police Arrest Man After Carjacking In Sydney CDB

A man has been arrested after an alleged carjacking in Sydney's CBD.

About 9pm (Thursday 8 October 2026), emergency services were called to the intersection of King and Pitt Streets, Sydney, following reports of a carjacking.

Police were told a man approached the driver of a Mazda sedan – a woman aged in her 20s – before allegedly stealing the vehicle and driving along George Street. The woman was not injured.

The vehicle allegedly collided with a rideshare vehicle at the intersection of Market Street before crashing into a stationary police vehicle parked nearby. The Mazda then allegedly struck a woman aged in her 50s who was walking along Market Street.

The woman sustained a cut to her head and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command arrested the driver – a 36-year-old man – at the scene.

He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for mandatory testing under police guard, where he remains.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries into the incident have commenced.
