Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have this morning arrested a man following a crash on the Monash Freeway in Mulgrave which left another man fighting for life.
The crash occurred after two cars were seen travelling city bound on the Monash and appeared to be racing; weaving and changing lanes, on Monday 28 December about 10.45pm.
The car appeared to lose control before it crashed into the Springvale Road overpass and rolled.
The other vehicle, which was seen speeding alongside the crashed car between Wellington and Springvale roads prior to the collision, didn't stop and fled the scene.
The 20-year-old driver from Dandenong was conveyed to hospital with life threatening injuries.
His 18-year-old passenger, also from Dandenong, was conveyed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
This morning investigators arrested a 20-year-old man from Narre Warren South who is assisting with enquiries.
A vehicle was located which will be seized as part of the investigation.
