Police arrest man after driving at police in Altona Meadows

A man has been arrested after he drove towards police at a service station in Altona Meadows this morning.

While on patrol Public Order Response Team officers approached the man after he pulled into a service station bay, on the Point Cook Road exit of the Princess Highway, just after 1.20am.

The driver ignored a police direction to turn off his vehicle and drove towards police.

An approaching police officer had to take evasive action and discharged his firearm.

The car was pursued for a short time in nearby residential streets before the 64-year-old driver turned into Harrison Court and was arrested.

The Altona Meadows man is currently under police guard in hospital due to a medical condition.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

As per standard protocol when a police firearm is discharged, Professional Standards Command have been notified.
