Police Arrest Man After Fatal Assault Near Armidale

New England Police have arrested a man following the death of another man following an alleged assault at a campground near Armidale this morning.

About 1.40am (Monday 2 March 2026), emergency services received a report of an assault at a campground off Point Lookout Road, Ebor about 80km east of Armidale.

Police were told two men had a verbal altercation before one of the men allegedly seriously assaulted the other.

The injured man - aged 33 - was then driven to Thora about 25km northwest of Bellingen, where NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to treat him; however, he died at the scene.

Officers attached to New England Police District attended the campground; however, were not able to locate the other man at the time.

A crime scene was established and New England detectives - with assistance from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad - commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following investigations, police arrested a 26-year-old man on Waterfall Way off Pipeclay Street, Ebor, about 11.30am today.

He has been taken to Armidale Police Station.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
