A man has been arrested as part of investigations into the alleged assault of an off-duty police officer at Padstow yesterday.
About 6.45pm (Sunday 7 February 2021), the officer was driving on Fairford Road at Padstow when he witnessed a silver Toyota Hilux driving erratically.
The officer followed the Hilux onto Davies Road, before the vehicle swerved and stopped in the middle of the road.
The Hilux driver exited the vehicle, before approaching and verbally abusing the officer who was seated in his vehicle.
When the officer identified himself, he was allegedly punched in the face through the driver's side window and threatened with a knife.
A member of the public stopped to assist the officer – who is attached to a command in the Central Metropolitan Region – before the Hilux driver fled the scene.
The officer reported the incident to officers from Bankstown Police Area Command who commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Mona Street, South Granville, earlier today (Monday 8 February 2021).
During the search, police seized a vehicle and several other items relevant to the investigation.
Officers arrested a 29-year-old man at the home. He's been taken to Granville Police Station.
The officer did not require medical treatment.
Inquiries are continuing.
