Police arrest man after police cars are rammed in Dandenong

Police have arrested a man following an incident in Dandenong early this morning.

Police conducting a routine patrol observed a suspect vehicle at an address on Kirkham Street just before 1am.

The police officers called for back- up which arrived a short time later and both police cars stopped behind the vehicle.

The vehicle was driven up the driveway of an apartment block before it reversed at speed into the two police vehicles, forcing two officers to take evasive action to avoid being struck.

The driver continued to ram the vehicles multiple times before driving up the apartment block driveway again at speed, smashing through a fence and into the side of a house.

The driver got out of the car and a short foot pursuit took place on Lenaro Street where the man was OC sprayed and arrested.

The man has been taken to hospital for treatment for injuries believed to have been sustained when the car crashed.

One police officer is being treated for a non-life threatening injury he sustained during the arrest.

The two occupants in the house the car struck were not injured.
