Police Arrest Man After Pursuit At Wagga Wagga

Police have arrested a man following a pursuit in the state's Riverina Region today.

About 10.10am (Thursday 29 February 2024), officers attached to Riverina Police District were patrolling The Rock, about 30kms southwest of Wagga Wagga, when they observed a silver Mercedes, believed to be stolen, travelling north along the Olympic Highway.

Police deployed road spikes at Uranquinty; however, when the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

The vehicle was sighted a short time later on the Olympic Highway near Moorong Street, Wagga Wagga, where it was seen to collide with another vehicle, before the driver of the Mercedes stopped and ran from the scene.

The driver – and sole occupant – a 24-year-old man – was arrested a short distance away.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for treatment of minor injuries where he remains under police guard.

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time or has dashcam footage is urged to contact local police or Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
