Police arrest man after ramming police vehicle 2 May

Police have arrested a man after he allegedly rammed a police vehicle in a stolen van this morning.

It's alleged the man stole the delivery van from Glenlyon Road, Brunswick East about 2.30am before officers observed him drive into a Mount Alexander Road supermarket car park about 2.45am.

As police attempted to intercept the man, it's alleged he rammed the front quarter panel of a police vehicle before fleeing in the van.

The 34-year-old dumped the truck in nearby Winifred Street before being arrested after a short foot pursuit in Salmon Avenue.

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged the Lalor man with theft of motor vehicle, aggravated intentional exposure of a police officer to risk by driving and theft.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court for a filing hearing on Monday 4 May.
