Police arrest man after Renown Park fire, South Australia

A man has been arrested following an overnight fire at a Renown Park townhouse.

At 12.30am on Wednesday 18 March, police and fire crews were called to Jack Johnson Court following reports of a fire inside a two-storey townhouse.

A man who was inside the townhouse at the time jumped from the second level to escape the fire.

Police will allege the man then armed himself with an axe and smashed the window of a neighbour's house forcing his way inside the property.

Police patrols set up cordons around that home and arrested the man without further incident.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze which completely destroyed the home and also caused damage to an adjoining home.

A 33-year-old man from West Croydon was arrested and is likely to be charged later this morning with arson and aggravated serious criminal trespass.

Anyone with information on the incident who hasn't yet spoken with police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
