Police arrest man after serious assault at Cobar

A man has been arrested and another remains in a critical condition following a serious assault on the state's Central West overnight.

About 11.40pm (Saturday 31 August 2019), officers from Central North Police District were called to a licensed premises on Marshall Street, Cobar, following reports a man had been assaulted.

Police were told the injured man was punched by another man, which resulted in him falling backwards, hitting his head heavily on the pavement and being rendered unconscious.

The 34-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Cobar Hospital with severe head injuries. He was transferred to Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation launched into the incident.

About 8.15am today (Sunday 1 September 2019), a 27-year-old man was arrested after presenting to Cobar Police Station.

As inquiries continue, police are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

It is believed the men are known to each other.
