Police arrest man after shots fired into car – Condell Park

A man has been arrested at Chester Hill this morning following a public place shooting in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Just after 9pm (Sunday 28 November 2021), police responded to reports of a shooting in the vicinity of Townsend Street, Condell Park.

On arrival, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command located a white Toyota Yaris – with a number of bullet holes – which had been involved in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Townsend Street and Manahan Street.

Police were told the occupants of the Yaris – aged 37, 17, 17, 16 and 12 – had allegedly been shot at by a man while driving in the area a short time before the crash.

No one was injured as a result of the shooting or the crash.

A crime scene was established, and the vehicle was seized, both of which were examined by specialist forensic police.

Detectives commenced an investigation into the shooting, which they are treating as targeted.

Following inquiries, specialist police from the Public Order and Riot Squad arrested a 20-year-old man outside a unit block on Clack Road, Chester Hill, just before 8am today (Monday 29 November 2021).

At the time of the arrest, the man was leaving the unit block in a silver Toyota Orion believed to have been used in the shooting, however not involved in the crash. The car has been seized for forensic examination.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at the unit block with assistance of the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU).

The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station where charges are expected.

Investigations continue.
