More New Homes For Melbourne's East

VIC Premier

Labor is turning surplus land into hundreds of new homes in Melbourne's east.

Construction has now begun at Ovata in Knoxfield - a brand-new neighbourhood of around 400 homes on the site of a former horticultural research facility.

Featuring a mix of two, three and four-bedroom designs, the homes will be built to suit a range of budgets and households.

The development includes green open spaces, a purpose-built wetlands system, and walking and cycling connections to the Blind Creek Trail.

A mixed-use zone along Burwood Highway will create space for future retail, commercial and community services.

Sales open in late 2026, with construction continuing through 2027.

Jess Wilson's Liberals want to rip up Labor's planning reforms and block new homes from being built - leaving first home buyers and young families locked out.

Only Labor has a plan to increase housing supply and make life easier and more affordable for Victorians.

As stated by Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts Jaclyn Symes

"This project will deliver hundreds of new homes for Victorians and a new wetlands system which will create a haven for local wildlife."

"Hundreds of families will get the chance to put down roots in Melbourne's east, in a community built for the way people want to live today."

As stated by Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor

"This means more housing choice for local families and a new community with the open space and connections Knoxfield deserves."
