Police arrest man after stolen vehicle followed across northern and southern suburbs

A man has been arrested after police tracked an allegedly stolen vehicle across several suburbs in the early hours of 23 July.

Officers attempted to intercept the white Mitsubishi Triton in Sunbury about 1.45am but the driver allegedly sped away.

The Victoria Police Air Wing followed the vehicle across multiple suburbs including Bulla, Maribyrnong, Glen Huntly, Prahran and Caulfield South.

The Mitsubishi allegedly reached speeds of about 160km/h at times.

Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device at the intersection of Grange Road and Morgan Street in Carnegie about 3.50am.

The vehicle came to a stop and the driver attempted to flee on foot but was arrested nearby a short time later.

Police located a firearm near where the vehicle came to rest.

A 30-year-old Sunbury man has been taken into custody and is currently assisting investigators with their enquiries.
